Cisitalia: An Italian Automotive Innovator
A New Era for Cisitalia: Our Cisitalia 202 EV SMM Nuvolari Limited Edition Spyder Continuations mark a new chapter in our illustrious history of pioneering innovation.
Cisitalia, a name synonymous with Italian automotive racing and aerodynamic cars, has left an indelible mark on the history of car design. Among our most iconic racing models is the 202 SMM Spyder, a stunning open-top sports car that epitomises the spirit of post-war Italian racing design.
The 202 SMM Spyder was not only visually striking but also technologically advanced for its time. Powered by a Cisitalia race-prepared 1098cc Fiat 4-cylinder 60bhp engine, offered impressive performance and agility, which was clearly demonstrated in the 1947 Mille Miglia race, where Cisitalia claimed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places.
The legendary Tazio Nuvolari piloted his Italian Rosso Red Cisitalia 202 SMM Spyder in this first post-war Mille Miglia, leading the race for over 800 miles. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions near the end of the race cost him first place when his car encountered a large puddle, causing water to enter the magneto. Despite this setback, he still finished 2nd.
Cisitalia’s founder, Piero Dusio, was so delighted with the race results and especially Tazo’s 2nd place finish. In honor of Nuvolari’s achievement, he announced that all future 202 SMM Spyders would be known as 202 Nuvolari Spyders. This decision led to a surge in demand, with 20 clients ordering their own 202 SMM Nuvolari Spyders, all finished in Rosso Red.
Beyond the 202 SMM Spyder, we also created another stunning model: our 202 GT Coupe. Initially sketched by Giovanni Savonuzzi, Cisitalia’s Technical Director, the 202 GT Coupe was further refined by Battista Farina. This elegant coupe is a testament to the artistry and innovation of Italian coachbuilding. In recognition of its design significance, a 202 GT Coupe has been on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1951.
With just 170 aluminum hand-crafted examples ever produced, the Cisitalia 202 is a rare collector’s car. Only 20 of these were Nuvolari Spyders, making them even more exclusive.
Our heritage continuation 202 EV SMM Nuvolari Spyder models finished in Rosso Red combine the Iconic classic Mille Migla designed racing car with cutting-edge electric technology. For discerning collectors seeking a truly unique and exhilarating driving experience, these limited-edition models are now available for reservation with deliveries starting in 2025.
